Did you notice

DID YOU NOTICE?

Before we continue, stop and think about why you selected the button that you chose on the previous screen? My guess is that without additional information, your brain looked at two objects. One was 8-sided and red and the other was a circle and green. We have been conditioned to “know” that red means stop and that green means go. Your brain took that stored information and when the choices appeared, you chose the one that you assumed meant, “continue”. This is an example of how your brain takes and processes information based on what you have heard, seen and learned previously.

Now, if you clicked the red button, you are in the minority of people. Over 90% of people continued to this page by selecting the green button. Most of the people who selected the red button, did so because they are color-blind and did not see a difference between the colors, however, many color-blind people would have still selected the circle because they are familiar with a stop sign that is 8-sided.

Interesting, huh? But what else did you notice?

Rubins Vase How many of you saw the vase? Or did you see two faces looking at each other
Did you see a duck or a rabbit? Duck Rabbit
B13-B73 How many of you saw the number “13”? How many of you saw a capital “B”? Did anyone see the number “73”?
Did you see the old lady or the young lady? Young Old Woman

As you can see, our brain is a fascinating organ and often, we will see what we are looking for and conversely, we will not see what we are not looking for even when it’s right there, staring us in the face.
